Off-and-on over the past couple months I've been working on generating accurate canopy reflections. The approach I'm taking is to extract the canopy mesh, generate reflection vectors from the pilot's viewpoint to each texel, and then render the cockpit from that perspective to determine the texel color. This works fairly well, but the result was somewhat unsatisfying since there was no pilot in the cockpit. So I'm taking this as opportunity to learn some Blender skills as well. There are some minor challenges importing .osg meshes into Blender, but exporting to .osg works well and produces nice results. Here are a few screenshots showing some of the steps.
The learning curve is steep, but worth it:
Partially texture mapped pilot, missing a few appendages. The body is subsurfed to 360 quads, rendered in Blender.
Exported and viewed together with Lologramme's F-16 cockpit in osgviewer. The internal cockpit reflections are slightly visible from outside the canopy:
