From CSP
Here are some very early shots of CaliforniaTerrain in CSPSim (using Demeter). Clearly Demeter's texturing is sorely lacking, but this is just to get a feel for the elevation data. The original 30 m DEM data hase been tiled onto an 8 x 8 grid with each block measuring 50 km on a side. The minimum vertex spacing is 193 m, which is less than 1/6 the linear detail of the original data set. Even so Demeter needs to render as many as 50000 triangles, which gets a bit sluggish. Hopefully a new engine based on chunked LOD can do much better. Also, the data decimation is extremely naive right now, and the terrain profiles should improve as soon as I add subsampling.
